1st June – 30th June
Theatre Camp
Theatre is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Through storytelling,
projective play, purposeful improvisation, and performance, participants are invited to rehearse
desired behaviors, practice being in relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles,
and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world.
We use play, embodiment, projection, role, story, metaphor, empathy, distancing,
witnessing, performance, and improvisation to help people make meaningful change.
Theatre can be an asset for any child who has a hard time verbalizing his feelings.
- unique benefits of Drama for children who participate in drama Camp:
- Reduced Social Isolation: being a community-building activity it helps children build empathy and social skills. They not only understand their peers worries and problems, but share them.
- Increased Self-esteem: Children can experience the confidence that comes from learning a new skill, whether performing for a full house, a group of peers, or an audience of one. Theatre performance celebrates the uniqueness of each individual and can help young people to identify their own strengths.
- Practicing New Skills: Roleplaying allows kids to try out new coping and social skills in a safe, low-risk environment. The role-player is free to experiment and make mistakes, and discover how different approaches to a problem have different outcomes.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Theatre increases children’s creativity and spontaneity, encouraging young people to trust their instincts and come up with new, out-of-the-box ways to approach life's challenges.
- Improved Emotional Expression: Theatre is a great way to more deeply explore feelings that may not be accessible with verbal therapy alone. It can also be a safe way to explore feelings that are too big or scary to talk about directly.
