Music Therapy
Music stimulates all of the senses. It can be highly motivating, yet also have a calming and relaxing effect. When used as a form of therapy, music can help kids by encouraging:
- Socialization
- Self-expression
- Communication
- Motor development
Because the brain processes music in both hemispheres, music can also stimulate cognitive functioning and may be used for remediation of some speech and language skills.
Some components of music therapy include:
- Listening to music
- Playing instruments
- Music improvisation
- Singing
- Writing songs
- Discussing lyrics
