Children’s Activity And Nutrition:

It is important that children are exposed to a healthy lifestyle in a natural, happy and enjoyable way as early as possible in their lives. It is also an important aspect of good parenting. Increasing numbers of Lifestyle diseases & their impact on the children is worrisome.

There are very common challenges that parents come to us and here is what we suggest them as a solution.

Lack of Physical Activity
  • Cardio-respiratory health due to inadequate activity levels
  • Obesity as well as under weight
  • Overeating / Not eating
  • Suggestion - Make Physical Activity Fun & Cool
  • Be an active role model
  • 60 min of physical activity every day
  • At least 30 min a day of family activity at least 3 times a week
  • Special occasions should be celebrated incorporating physical activity such as swimming , trekking, hiking, tournaments, theme walks or roller-skating partie
Quantity and type of Food
  • 5% of children are obese & 18% are overweight in India.
  • Diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension & respiratory problems are repercussions of obesit
  • Suggestion - Eating healthy as a family
  • Preferably eat together as a family at a dining table or a single place
  • TV / computer to be totally away during food times
  • Breakfast – to be like king
  • Eat frequently & eat slowly
  • Start eating when slightly hungry & stop when just satisfied
  • Eat consciously
Promote Healthy Nutrition
  • Be aware of & balance food groups
  • Food groups include grains, vegetables, fruits, milk & protein food
  • Check your child’s BMI!
EAT HEALTHY, BE ACTIVE
Some questions to get you thinking about your home environment:
  • How often does the family eat together?
  • How often do family members eat a wholesome breakfast?
  • What Kinds of snacks are available & accessible to your children when they are hungry?
  • Is the TV turned on during the meal times?
  • How many hours do your children go down to play (any sport/physical activity included) each day?
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
  • Help your children form healthy habits now.
  • Healthy & active children are more likely to be healthy & active adults.
